Frequently Asked Questions

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. These interruptions occur due to the relaxation and narrowing of the throat muscles, leading to partial or complete blockage of the airway.

What are the symptoms of OSA?

Symptoms of OSA may include loud snoring, pauses in breathing during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and waking up frequently during the night.

How is OSA diagnosed?

Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT) is one of the methods used to diagnose OSA. It involves wearing portable monitoring equipment while sleeping at home. The equipment records various parameters like airflow, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate to assess the presence and severity of sleep apnea.

Is Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT) as accurate as in-lab sleep studies?

HSAT is a reliable method for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, particularly for individuals with a high likelihood of having OSA. It offers the convenience of testing in your own sleep environment, but it might not capture all aspects of sleep as comprehensively as in-lab studies.

How do I interpret the HSAT results?

You will be provided a finalized report and summary of the results.  This summary is a basic overview of the results to aid in understanding, however is by no means comprehensive or a substitute for complete evaluation by a board certified Sleep Medicine physician.  HSAT results are part of the diagnostic process and can inform treatment decisions, but they should be considered alongside a complete clinical assessment from a physician.

Will I consult with a physician?

Our service is to meet the basic need of completing a home sleep apnea study.  All those who complete our service are strongly recommended to follow up with the referring physician, Primary Care Physician, or a board certified Sleep Medicine Physician for a complete evaluation, explanation of results, and development of a treatment plan.

What if the test equipment is lost or damaged?

If testing equipment is lost, damaged, or not returned, users will be subject to a $300 test kit replacement fee.
